Explanation of Norwegian regulations to reduce fish escape risk
The Chilean Network Workshops and Related Services Association A.G. (Atared) released Bulletin N°48 about Norwegian regulations that seek to minimize fish escapes. This bulletin is part of Atared’s line of “Promotion of Responsible Work”.
The bulletin explains that the high standards of Norwegian farming siting, installation, and monitoring regulations are based on precautionary concepts of traceability and certification. The Chilean aquaculture farm standard has significant room to improve safety and planning, writes Atared.
Taking lessons from Norwegian infrastructure requirements and guidelines, the installation of sea lion and fish nets could be improved by using durable material in cultivation zones in relation to their level of weather exposure so the amount of fish escapes is reduced.
