IFOP submits results from harmful algal bloom study
In Puerto Montt (Los Lagos Region) and Concepción (Biobí0 Region), the Fisheries Promotion Insittue (IFOP) held workshops to inform stakeholders of the results of the Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) study in the southern Pacific Ocean.
The periodic program samples and quantifies the level of Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP), Diarrheic Shellfish Poisioning (DSP), and Amnesic Shellfish Poisoning (ASP) in the environment and monitors harmful algal species that cause these toxins.
In addition, the program collects long-term data on total phytoplankton, oceanographic and meteorological variables in each of their 67 sample stations between Biobío and Aysén Region.
During 2019 IFOP will continue with the second stage of the year-long study.
