Exclusive report: Transport routes and Atlantic salmon market in 2018

Recently, consultant firm IndexSalmon published a market report on Atlantic salmon, the principal aquaculture species produced in Chile.

In 2018, the county exported 455,891 metric tons (t) of salmon through maritime shipping (44.5%), air travel (29.1%), and over land (26.4%).

Mediterranean Shipping Co. controlled the majority of maritime shipments (25.5%). The countries that received the highest quantity of Atlantic salmon via these routes were Russia, the United States, and China.

Latam Airlines concentrated the highest volume of air shipments (41.2%). The majority of the product sent through air travel arrived in the U.S.


In 2018, Chile exported 120,243 t of Atlantic salmon over land.  Tudefrigo coordinated the largest share of shipments, the majority of which arrived in Brazil (71.3%).
