As forecasted by the maximum authority of the Association of Salmon Farmers, in 2005 the Chilean salmon farming industry complied with all the commitments voluntarily made in the Clean Production Agreement (CPA). It delivered the first quality measurements of the ocean floor; it continued advancing in the adoption of standards like the Integrated Management System (IMS) and ISO 14000; it updated the Environmental Consultants Register (part of the agreement signed in 2003 with the Chilean Environmental Commission (CONAMA); it strengthened its Clean Shores program; and it continued implementing technologies and actions to tighten links with the environment and communities where the industry operates.

However, the challenge of continuously improving never ends. There are always new improvements to be made in order to develop and environmental-friendly industry that will permit salmon farming to be a sustainable activity over time. There are new challenges, equipment, methodologies, projects, companies, associations, interactions, and new knowledge that must be reviewed, implemented and disseminated. The industry, however, has already passed the “point of no return”. Its mission now is to continue progressing.
