Of all the fishing industries in Ecuador, the most important one is tuna fishing. Except during fishing bans, the fishing vessels have to go increasingly offshore to catch some of the three species that well in the Eastern Pacific Ocean.

Other flourishing industries are the fishmeal, canning and non-industrial fishing industries, which take advantage of the broad range of species drifted by the Humboldt Current.
