New industry regulations
General Law of Fisheries and Aquaculture: criteria and definitions
The Chilean salmon farming industry grew so rapidly that it practically collapsed. Therefore, the political, economic and social sectors and the industry itself requested the former Administration a new legislation that would regulate the different productive aspects of a modern industry.
Good or bad, the new General Law of Fisheries and Aquaculture addressed management matters and the use of the maritime territory, gave the institutional framework greater authority to protect the environment, and established new penalties.
