Quiet waters in Chile (abstract)

The participants in Chilean aquaculture have classified 2002 as a positive and calm year. The slight drop in thes sector's share of Chilean fisheries exports -from 56.2% to 54.2%- is blamed mostly on the salmon price situation, which rose only in the second half of the year. Sanitatios and environmental regulations, free trade agreements, environmental commitments, a dumping accusation and a the public regcognition of this activity by the nation's highest authorities were events that characterized last year. Internationally, Chilean made giants steps with salmon, scallops ans seaweed taking first places in worldwide production.
