Russia and China increase importations of Chilean salmon by more than 66%

IndexSalmon delivered reports on salmonids exportations from January – October 2018. In this period, Chile exported 499,616 tonnes (t), a 24.3% increase from the same period in 2017.

Value also increased 11.2% from US$3.724 billion in 2017 to US$4.14 billion this year. This increase occurred despite an average price drop.

Notably, Russia and China increased importations by 67.9% and 66.6%, respectively. Importations in South Korea, Canada, and Israel also increased.

The United States continues as the most important export market, receiving from the January-October this year 141,913 net tonnes equivalent to US$1.518 billion. In second position is Japan, followed by Brazil.

Cermaq Chile continues as the largest exporter followed by AquaChile Companies and then Multiexport Foods.
